How to Change Kent RO Filter at Home — Step-by-Step Guide

Aqua Product
Kent's annual AMC costs ₹2,500–₹4,000 and often just replaces the same filters you can buy for ₹800–₹1,800. Here is how to do it yourself in under 30 minutes.

Kent is one of India's most popular RO purifier brands — Grand Plus, Pearl, Ace, Maxx, and Wonder. All Kent models use standard RO filter architecture — the same sediment, carbon, membrane, and post-carbon stages — which makes DIY filter replacement straightforward.

Filters Inside a Kent RO Purifier

  • Stage 1 — Sediment PP Filter (5 micron) — removes dust, sand, rust
  • Stage 2 — Pre Carbon Block Filter — removes chlorine and odour that can damage the RO membrane
  • Stage 3 — RO Membrane (75 GPD) — removes dissolved salts, heavy metals, bacteria by reverse osmosis
  • Stage 4 — Post Carbon / Taste Enhancer — polishes final water taste
  • Stage 5 — UV Chamber — (RO+UV models) secondary disinfection after the membrane
  • Stage 6/7 — UF Membrane + TDS Controller — (advanced models) ultrafiltration and mineralisation adjustment

Kent Filter Replacement Schedule

Filter Replace Every Why It Matters
Sediment PP Filter 3 months Clogging damages RO membrane
Carbon Block Filter 6 months Protects membrane from chlorine
Post Carbon Filter 12 months Keeps final water tasting fresh
RO Membrane 12–24 months TDS rejection drops when expired
UV Lamp 12 months UV output drops after 8,000 hrs

Step-by-Step Kent Filter Replacement

Step 1 — Switch Off, Unplug, and Close Inlet

Turn off, unplug, and close the inlet valve. Release residual pressure by opening the purifier tap briefly.

Step 2 — Open the Front Panel

Kent purifiers have a front panel secured by 2–4 clips or screws. Pull gently from the bottom or side. Photograph the internal pipe layout before disconnecting anything.

Step 3 — Remove the Filter Housings

Use the filter wrench to unscrew each white cylindrical housing anti-clockwise. Place a tray below — water will drip. Pull out the old cartridge and discard.

Step 4 — Clean the Housings

Rinse each housing under tap water to remove sediment and slime — especially important for the sediment housing.

Step 5 — Install New Cartridges

Place the new cartridge in the cleaned housing, ensuring it sits straight. Screw the housing clockwise — hand-tight first, then a quarter-turn with the wrench. Do not over-tighten.

Step 6 — Replace the Inline Post Carbon Filter

Press the collar ring, pull pipes off each end, remove old filter, connect the new one. Confirm both connections are locked by tugging gently.

Step 7 — Replace the RO Membrane (Annual or Biennial)

The RO membrane sits inside a blue or white pressure vessel (~300mm long). Disconnect the inlet, outlet, and drain pipes. Unscrew the end cap, pull out the old membrane, insert the new one with the O-ring lubricated with a drop of clean water, and reassemble. Ensure all pipe connections click securely.

Step 8 — Flush and Test

Open the inlet valve and plug in. Let run for 10 minutes before drinking — discard the first full tank. Use a TDS meter to verify output TDS is significantly lower than input.

Kent-Specific Tips

  • Kent Grand Plus and Pearl: membrane vessel is on the right side. Post-carbon is a small inline filter near the output.
  • Kent Maxx: UV-only model with 2 pre-filters. No membrane present — filter replacement is especially simple.
  • Kent Ace and Wonder: wall-mounted 5-stage models. Filter arrangement is visible once the front cover is removed.
  • Models with TDS controller: after membrane replacement, readjust the white dial to maintain output at 150–200 TDS.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kent is showing a red light. Does that mean the filter needs changing?

The red light is a time-based service reminder — not a sensor. After changing filters, hold the power button for 5 seconds until the light turns green.

Why is my Kent output TDS still high after replacing the membrane?

Three possible causes: clogged sediment filter reducing flow (replace it), loose O-ring letting raw water bypass the membrane (re-seat and re-lubricate), or TDS controller set too high (adjust the dial).

Can I use Bareeze Pure filters in my Kent purifier?

Yes. Bareeze Pure filter kits are specifically designed for Kent Grand Plus, Pearl, Ace, Maxx, and other models. They fit the same housings and deliver the same filtration performance as Kent's own service filters.
